How to Comply
It's your responsibility - Every organisation that produces waste is responsible for what happens to it - and that means making sure that it is pre-treated.
Viridor provides a one-stop-shop service in many areas, collecting and processing waste via its licensed Waste Transfer Stations and Materials Recycling Facilities. This is a good way to ensure that as much of your waste is recycled or recovered prior to landfilling the residue.
Alternatively, you may be able to pre-treat your wastes on your own premises. Wastes are defined as ‘treated' if the characteristics of the waste have been changed in one of four ways. These are by:
- Reducing its volume, for example by removing recyclable materials such as glass, plastic and paper.
- Changing its nature, for example by chemical treatment so as to reduce its hazardous nature.
- Making it easier to handle.
- Enhancing its recovery.
