Important changes to the law on commercial waste
It’s time to take action – are you ready?
Over the last few years the countries of the EU have had to make a number of changes in the way waste is sent to landfill for disposal.
With effect from 30 October 2007 two new rules from the Landfill (England and Wales) Regulations 2002 come into force. This essentially means that:
- All non-hazardous waste has to be pre-treated before it can be disposed of in a landfill
- Non-hazardous liquids can no longer be sent to landfill
The purpose of this is to reduce the impact of waste that is sent to landfill and to increase the amount of waste that is recovered and recycled.
This website has been created by Viridor Waste Management to help customers and other waste producers meet their new obligations. You can fill in the Pre-Treatment Form online or download Essential Guide to Waste Law Changes.
It is vital to take action now. No landfill operator will be able to accept your wastes after October 30 2007, unless you have complied with the new pre-treatment regulations.
